Basketball update

The boys basketball teams faced off against the James Bowie Pirates last night. Here are the results:

7th Grade A team

Red Lick 28     James Bowie 24

The 7th grade Red Lick Mustangs battled in a closely contested game, coming out on top by a final score of 28-24. With the Mustangs up 3 in the closing seconds, Eli Rankin hit the game sealing free throw to put the Mustangs up with less than 10 seconds left in the game. Eli led all scorers with 17 points, having five 3 point baskets and many key rebounds late in the game. Ethan Kessler added 5 points and was a force on the glass and the defensive end as well. Jude McKeever and Samuel Gonzalez led the Mustangs through a tough defensive game plan put together by the Pirates and handled the pressure well down the stretch. 

8th Grade A team

Red Lick 31     James Bowie 27

The 8th grade Red Lick Mustangs capped off the night with a victory by a final score of 31-27. The Mustangs led going into half by 21-16 and controlled the game coming out on top in the end. Battling foul trouble all night, Kamden Kyles led the Mustangs with 10 points and Ashton Smallwood added 7 points. Cooper Hampton and Cooper Swanson were vital parts in controlling the offense and handling the pressure put forth by the Pirates throughout the entire game to seal the victory. It was a great team effort by all involved.

The Mustangs will be back in action this weekend at Red Lick for the boys tournament held at the RLMS gymnasium. The 7th grade kicks off the tournament at 8am and the 8th grade will follow at 9am. The 7th grade will play their 2nd game of the day at 2pm and the 8th grade will play at 3pm. The Mustangs will be back in action for district vs. Maud next Thursday at Red Lick with both boys and girls playing together on the same night. White team girls will start at 4:30, followed by 7th grade boys, followed by blue team girls, and ending with the 8th grade boys around 7:30. Go Mustangs!!
